Planning a Maldives trip from Nepal
What a traveller from Nepal has to decide and arrange for the Maldives, in the order it happens: the kind of island, the month, the flight and the boat that meets it, what you show at the airport, and the money. Entry rules and taxes change, so each rule here links to the official page it comes from.

Questions
Maldives trip questions, answered
Not before you fly. The Maldives gives every tourist a 30-day visa on arrival, and a Nepali passport is treated like any other. At the immigration desk you show a passport valid for at least one more month, a confirmed return ticket, a prepaid booking at a registered hotel or resort, and enough money for your stay. You also fill in the free Traveller Declaration online within 96 hours before you land.
Two costs make up the trip: the package and the flight. The package prices on this page cover everything inside the Maldives, per person, in the low season from May to September: the hotel or resort, the meals listed, boat transfers and taxes. The flight from Kathmandu is the changeable part, because every route connects in another city. Tell us your dates and we quote both together. Our guide to the Maldives trip cost from Nepal shows how to add it up.
No. Every journey to Malé connects once. The shortest connection is in Colombo, at about seven hours in all. Others go through Delhi, Mumbai or Dubai and take longer. The time you land in Malé decides which islands you can reach the same day, so we choose the flight and the hotel together.
A resort is one hotel on its own island, with the beach all round, a bar and water villas. A local island, such as Maafushi, is a village with small hotels, cafes and excursion boats, and it costs about half as much. Local islands sell no alcohol and keep swimwear to one tourist beach. Many travellers from Nepal split the trip: the first nights on a local island and the last at a resort.
A beach villa stands on the island, a few steps from the sand. A water villa stands on a jetty over the lagoon, with steps from its deck into the sea, and costs much more per night. The most popular package from Nepal gives you two nights in a beach villa and the last night in a water villa, so that you pay for one overwater night and not three.
January to March is the dry season, with the most sun and the highest prices. December and April sit between the seasons. From mid-May to November it is the wet season: warm, with showers that pass and sun between them, and resort prices at their lowest from May to September. The sea is warm enough to swim in every month.
It can be, if you accept some rain. October and November are the end of the wet season, so expect a shower on some days and sun on most. Resort prices are lower than in winter, though they start to rise in November. Flights from Kathmandu cost most around both festivals, so book two to three months ahead.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner and a list of drinks are included for your whole stay, and usually snorkelling gear and kayaks too. Each resort has its own list, so we tell you what the plan covers before you book. Half board means breakfast and dinner only. At a resort, anything outside your plan has 10 percent service charge and 17 percent tax added to the menu price.
Yes. Resort buffets have vegetarian dishes at every meal, and many cook Indian and Jain food if they know in advance. Maafushi has Indian restaurants with vegetarian menus. Smaller local islands cook mostly fish, so tell us when you book and we choose a hotel that can cook for you.
Yes. Every trip here is a starting point. We can add nights, change the resort or the room, move from half board to all-inclusive, add a night in a water villa, or join a local island with a resort, and we requote the price for the changes. Pool villas and resorts reached by seaplane are quoted on request.
