Thailand Trip Cost from Nepal 2026: Complete Budget

A six-day trip to Thailand costs most Nepali travellers somewhere between NPR 90,000 and NPR 250,000 per person. That covers your return flight from Kathmandu, the tourist visa, your hotel, food and getting around. If you want one number to plan with, a comfortable middle-of-the-road trip comes to around NPR 150,000.

Please treat every price here as a guide, not a fixed quote. Costs change constantly, and flight prices change the most. The same Kathmandu to Bangkok seat can cost NPR 45,000 one week and NPR 90,000 another, depending on when you book and how busy the route is. Hotels, food and the visa fee move too, just more slowly. We checked all the figures below in September 2026, using the Nepal Rastra Bank rate of about NPR 151 to the US dollar and NPR 4.61 to the Thai baht.

How much does a Thailand trip cost from Nepal in total?

A six-day trip to Thailand from Nepal costs roughly NPR 90,000 to NPR 250,000 per person in 2026. Where you land in that range depends mostly on two things: how early you book your flight, and what kind of hotel you want. If you stay in a simple guesthouse, eat street food and take the metro, you can do the whole trip for about NPR 90,000. A three-star hotel, meals in restaurants and a few paid attractions brings it to around NPR 150,000. A four-star hotel with private cars and a nicer standard of everything takes you to about NPR 250,000. The flight alone is usually NPR 45,000 to NPR 90,000 of that, and the visa adds about NPR 5,000. These are estimates and real prices move week to week.

One thing worth knowing if you are travelling as a couple: you will each spend less than a single traveller would. The hotel room costs the same whether one or two people sleep in it. So two people on the middle budget spend around NPR 260,000 together, which works out to about NPR 130,000 each rather than NPR 150,000.

How much are flights from Kathmandu to Bangkok?

A return flight usually costs somewhere between NPR 45,000 and NPR 90,000. That is a wide gap, and almost all of it comes down to when you book. We have seen non-stop returns advertised from around NPR 49,000, while people booking within the next month are typically paying closer to NPR 86,000 for the same journey.

The good news is that this is one of the easiest international routes out of Nepal. It is a direct flight of about three and a half hours, and there are roughly 42 flights a week. Thai Airways, Nepal Airlines and Thai Lion Air all fly it without a stop. IndiGo, Air India and SriLankan also sell tickets, but you change planes in Delhi, Mumbai or Colombo along the way.

Book about six weeks ahead if you can. That is where the prices on this route tend to be lowest. Two things matter more than any general advice, though. Flights out of Kathmandu get expensive around Dashain and Tihar, because everyone in Nepal wants to travel at once. And Thailand's own cheap season is June to October, when it rains there — which happens to be our monsoon too, so it suits a lot of people.

Do Nepali citizens still get a visa on arrival in Thailand?

No, not any more. Nepal was taken off Thailand's visa-on-arrival list in May 2026. Only India, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia are left on it. You now have to get your visa online before you fly, and airlines at Tribhuvan will not let you board without one. If you have been to Thailand before and remember paying at the airport, that is no longer possible.

You apply online through the Royal Thai Embassy in Kathmandu at thaievisa.go.th. You do not have to hand over your passport. Here is what to budget for:

• The visa fee: about NPR 5,000 for a single-entry tourist visa, or around NPR 25,000 if you need multiple entries. Check the current fee on the portal before you apply — it is set in Thai baht, so it moves with the exchange rate. You do not get it back if your application is refused.
• How long it takes: usually 7 to 14 working days from the day you pay. Apply three to four weeks before you fly.
• Money in your account: the official minimum is 20,000 Thai baht, which is about NPR 92,000. In practice the embassy likes to see at least NPR 100,000 sitting in your account, across a six-month bank statement.
• Staying longer: the visa gives you 60 days. You can extend it once by 30 days after you arrive, for 1,900 baht — roughly NPR 8,800.

The bank statement is what trips most people up, because it is not a fee you pay — it is money that has to already be there, and stay there. If you put a big sum into your account a week before applying, it looks borrowed, and that is one of the most common reasons applications get refused. What do hotels, food and transport cost per day in Bangkok?

Once you have paid for your flight and visa, expect to spend NPR 5,500 to NPR 20,000 a day in Bangkok. Where you land in that range is mostly about your hotel — food and transport are cheap almost however you do it. Bangkok is still one of the most affordable capital cities in Southeast Asia.

Food is where you can save real money. A plate of street food costs about 60 baht and a meal in a mall restaurant costs around 350. Both fill you up. Over six days, choosing one over the other is a difference of roughly NPR 8,000. Transport is the opposite — the metro is cheap, air-conditioned and fast, and trying to save NPR 200 a day by avoiding it just means sitting in Bangkok traffic.

How much money can you take from Nepal?

Nepal Rastra Bank currently lets a Nepali passport holder take up to USD 3,000 per trip for a private holiday anywhere except India. That is about NPR 454,000, which is far more than a Thailand trip needs. The limit used to be USD 2,500, and there is no longer any cap on how many times a year you can use it.

But that is not the rule that catches people out. The one that does is the limit on card spending. You can only spend USD 500 a year on international payments using your personal cards — and that is counted across every card and every bank you have, added together. That is about NPR 76,000, which is less than one week in a decent hotel. If you are planning to just tap your Nepali card through the whole trip, you will hit the ceiling around day three.

So plan around it:

• Get the currency stamped into your passport before you go. Take your passport, your confirmed ticket and your approved visa to your bank. They put the foreign currency into an account for you rather than handing you cash.
• Carry most of it as cash, or on a prepaid travel card. A prepaid card loaded this way has much higher limits than your normal debit card.
• Tell customs if you are carrying more than USD 5,000 in cash. Below that you do not need to declare anything. Above it, use the declaration desk at the airport and keep the stamped slip for when you come home.
• Change your money in Thailand, not in Kathmandu. You will get a better rate changing dollars to baht at an exchange counter in Bangkok than changing rupees to baht here.

These rules change often — usually with each new monetary policy. Ask your own bank what the limits are before you travel. Nepal Rastra Bank publishes the official circulars.

Is it cheaper to book everything yourself?

For a simple Bangkok trip, yes — and we would rather tell you that honestly. One direct flight, one hotel and a metro card is not hard to arrange yourself. If that is your trip, book it yourself and keep the difference. A package on that itinerary is mostly paying someone else to do an hour of booking.

Packages start to make sense when your trip has more moving parts. A Bangkok and Pattaya trip means an intercity transfer and a boat trip on a fixed schedule. Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi means a domestic flight, a ferry and three separate hotel check-ins. On trips like that, one missed connection is not just annoying — it costs you a hotel night and a new flight ticket. That risk is the thing you are actually paying a package to carry. The other real reason people use us is the visa, because a refusal costs you the fee, your flight dates and often the whole trip.

However you book, these costs usually sit outside any price you are quoted, so keep money aside for them:

• Travel insurance. You do not need it to enter Thailand, but you should have it.
• Checked baggage on budget airlines. The cheap fare you see usually only includes a cabin bag.
• Airport pickups and drop-offs at both ends, unless someone has told you they are included.
• Tours and entry tickets — the Grand Palace, island day trips, shows.
• Meals that are not mentioned. "Breakfast included" normally means breakfast and nothing else.
• Tips and service charges.
• The visa fee itself, which is often quoted separately from a package price.

Common questions

Is Thailand cheaper than travelling in Nepal?

Day to day it costs a bit more, but less than most people imagine. A plate of street food in Bangkok is around NPR 200 and a metro ride is about NPR 100, which is not far off Kathmandu prices. The real difference is getting there — the flight and visa add roughly NPR 55,000 before you spend anything in Thailand.

How many days do you need in Thailand?

Five or six days is the least we would suggest for a first trip. The flight is short, so you only lose half a day travelling at each end, which leaves you four full days — enough for Bangkok and one beach or island trip. If you want to add Phuket or Krabi without rushing, plan for around ten days.

Can I get a visa on arrival with a Nepali passport?

No. Nepal was removed from that list in May 2026. You need an approved visa before you get on the plane, and airlines in Kathmandu will stop you boarding without one. Apply three to four weeks ahead.

Which month is cheapest to fly to Bangkok?

June to October is Thailand's rainy season and its cheapest time, and flights from Kathmandu are usually lowest then. The exception is Dashain and Tihar, when prices go up because so many people here are travelling. February and early March are a good middle ground if you want decent weather and a fair price.

How much spending money should I take for a week?

For a middle-of-the-road week, keep aside around NPR 45,000 to NPR 60,000 for food, transport and sightseeing, on top of your flight, visa and hotel. Take it as foreign currency or on a prepaid travel card, not on your normal Nepali debit card, which only allows USD 500 of international spending for the entire year.

Is a Thailand package worth the money?

For a straightforward Bangkok trip, usually not — you can book the same thing yourself for less. For trips that involve domestic flights, ferries and several hotels, packages are often close on price and clearly safer, because they cover you when a connection goes wrong.
