Bangkok Pattaya vs Phuket Krabi: Which Thailand Trip from Nepal? (2026)

Travel Nepal HolidaysSeptember 28, 2026

If this is your first trip to Thailand from Nepal and you have about five days of leave, pick Bangkok and Pattaya. If you have eight days and you want the clear water and tall cliffs you have seen in photos, pick Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi, and go between November and April, when the sea on that coast is calm.

Those are the two Thailand trips most people from Nepal choose between. They look similar on a list, but they are very different holidays. This guide shows you what each one is really like, which months suit each, and which one costs more, so you can choose before you ask anyone for a price. We checked the facts here in September 2026.

What you want to know Bangkok and Pattaya Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi
How many days you need Five days and four nights. Eight days and seven nights.
Flights inside Thailand None. You travel by road the whole time. Two. One from Bangkok to Phuket and one from Krabi back to Bangkok.
The beach day One day on Coral Island, a short speedboat ride from Pattaya. Two full days on the water: the Phi Phi Islands and the Four Islands near Krabi.
How busy the trip feels Easy. You change hotel once and have a free day in Bangkok. Fuller. You stay in three places and have some early starts.
Best months to go You can go all year. November to February has the nicest weather. November to April. The sea is rough and rainy from May to October.
Who it suits First trip abroad, families, short leave, people who love shopping. Couples, friends, honeymoons, anyone who is going mainly for the sea.

Which Thailand trip should you pick for a first visit?

For a first visit to Thailand from Nepal, Bangkok and Pattaya is the safer choice, and Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi is the better choice if you have the time. The five-day Bangkok and Pattaya trip has no flights inside Thailand, only one hotel change, and works in any month of the year. It fits into a single week of leave. The eight-day Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi trip shows you far more of the country, including two days among the islands, but it needs two extra flights, three hotels and good weather. It is at its best from November to April. So the choice comes down to three questions. How many days can you take off? Which month are you travelling? And are you going mainly for the city and the shopping, or mainly for the sea? Your answers will point to one trip.

If you are still unsure after reading this, that is normal. Most people who write to us are deciding between exactly these two.

What do you actually do on each trip?

On the short trip you spend two nights by the sea in Pattaya and two nights in Bangkok. On the long trip you spend time in Bangkok at both ends, with Phuket and Krabi in the middle. Here is how the days run on our two trips.

Bangkok and Pattaya, five days:

  • Day 1: You land in Bangkok and a car takes you straight to Pattaya. The drive is about two hours.
  • Day 2: You take a speedboat to Coral Island, which locals call Koh Larn. The ride takes 15 to 20 minutes. You spend the day on the beach.
  • Day 3: You drive back to Bangkok and see the city on the way, including the Golden Mount and the Marble Temple.
  • Day 4: A free day in Bangkok. Most people use it for shopping.
  • Day 5: You fly home.

Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi, eight days:

  • Day 1: You land in Bangkok and stay the night.
  • Day 2: You tour Bangkok with a guide, then fly to Phuket. The flight takes under an hour and a half.
  • Day 3: A full day at the Phi Phi Islands by speedboat, with lunch.
  • Day 4: A private car takes you from Phuket to Krabi. The drive takes about two and a half to three hours.
  • Day 5: A full day at the Four Islands near Krabi, with lunch. At low tide you can walk across a strip of sand from one island to the next.
  • Day 6: You fly back to Bangkok.
  • Day 7: A free day, then dinner on a boat on the Chao Phraya river.
  • Day 8: You fly home.

You can read the full plan for each on the Bangkok and Pattaya trip page and the Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi trip page.

Is the beach in Pattaya as good as Phuket or Krabi?

No, and it is better to know that before you book. Pattaya is a busy city on the coast. People go for the nightlife, the water sports, the shows and the shopping. The beach in the city itself is not the reason to visit. The good beach day on this trip is Coral Island, where the sand is white and the water is clear enough to swim and snorkel.

Phuket and Krabi are a different kind of place. The Phi Phi Islands and the islands off Krabi are the ones you see in photos of Thailand, with green water and tall limestone cliffs rising out of the sea. If the main thing you want from Thailand is that view, the short trip will not give it to you.

The other side of it is just as true. If you want markets, malls, street food and a lively evening, Pattaya and Bangkok give you more of that than Krabi does. Krabi is quiet at night.

Which months are best for each trip?

Bangkok and Pattaya work in every month. Phuket and Krabi are best from November to April. From May to October that coast has its rainy season, the sea gets rough, and boat trips can be moved to another day or cancelled. Experience Travel Group's season guide names September and October as the wettest months there.

This matters a lot for travellers from Nepal, because of when our holidays fall. In most years Dashain comes in late September or October, which is the wettest time in Phuket and Krabi. Tihar usually comes a few weeks later, when the weather there is starting to clear.

When you want to travel Bangkok and Pattaya Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi
November to February The best weather of the year. It is dry and a little cooler. The best time to go. The sea is calm and the sky is clear.
March and April Very hot, but dry. Plan to be indoors in the afternoon. Still good for the islands. It is hot.
May to August It rains, mostly in short heavy showers. You can still do everything. Rainy season. Boat days may be moved or cancelled if the sea is rough.
September and October, including most Dashain holidays The wettest months in Bangkok, but the trip still works. This is the safer pick for Dashain. The wettest months. We would not plan a trip around the islands at this time.

One more date to know. Maya Bay, the famous beach in the Phi Phi Islands, closes every year so the coral can recover. In 2026 it was closed from 1 August to 30 September. Asian Trails reported that boat tours to Phi Phi kept running during the closure, but boats could not enter the bay.

Which trip costs more, and why?

The Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi trip costs more, for three plain reasons. It has three more hotel nights. It has two flights inside Thailand. And it has two full-day boat trips with lunch, where the short trip has one.

For the short trip, our Thailand trip cost guide gives you a good starting number. It found that about six days in Bangkok costs most travellers from Nepal between NPR 90,000 and NPR 250,000 per person, with a comfortable middle at around NPR 150,000. That covers the flight from Kathmandu, the visa, the hotel, food and getting around. A five-day Bangkok and Pattaya trip sits in the same range.

Please treat these numbers as a rough guide, not a quote. We checked them in September 2026 and they will have moved since. Where you land in the range depends mostly on your hotel and on how early you book your flight.

The flight from Kathmandu to Bangkok is the same for both trips, and it is usually the biggest single cost. In September 2026 a return ticket was somewhere between NPR 45,000 and NPR 90,000. Flight prices change every week, and they go up sharply around Dashain and Tihar. The Thai tourist visa was about NPR 5,000 per person.

The eight-day trip costs more than the range above, because of the extra nights, flights and boat days. We have not put a number on it here, because we do not have one we can stand behind for every date. Send us your dates and we will price it for you.

When you compare prices from different agencies, check these four things first. They explain most of the gap between a cheap quote and an expensive one.

  • The flight from Kathmandu: Is it in the price, or added later?
  • The visa fee: Is it included?
  • The hotel: Is it a three-star or a four-star, and where is it? A cheap hotel far from the beach costs you time and taxi money.
  • The island trips: Are they by speedboat or by a slower big boat, and is lunch included?

What do you need to arrange before either trip?

You need a Thai tourist visa before you fly, and a free online arrival form in the last three days before you land. This is the same for both trips.

  • The visa: Nepali passport holders cannot get a visa at the airport in Thailand. You apply online before you travel. The Royal Thai Embassy in Kathmandu says it needs at least seven working days, and asks you to apply about a month before you fly. The fee is about NPR 5,000. Our guide on how to apply for a Thailand visa from Nepal explains the documents.
  • The arrival form: Every foreign visitor fills in the Thailand Digital Arrival Card online, within three days before landing. It is free. Only use the official site, tdac.immigration.go.th. Any site that asks you to pay for it is not the real one.

Because the visa takes time, start planning at least five to six weeks before you want to fly. For Dashain and Tihar, start earlier. Flights fill up and the embassy is busier.

When is neither trip the right choice?

Sometimes the honest answer is that you should book something else, or book it yourself. These are the cases we see most often.

  • You only want Bangkok. One direct flight, one hotel and the city train are easy to book on your own. You will likely save money doing it yourself.
  • You want a beach holiday between June and September. Phuket and Krabi are in their rainy season then. Pick Bangkok and Pattaya for those months, or wait until November for the islands.
  • You have fewer than five days. You lose most of two days to travel. A short trip to Bangkok alone will feel less rushed than trying to add a beach.
  • You are travelling with very young children or elderly parents. Speedboat rides are bumpy and the island days are long and hot. The Bangkok and Pattaya trip is the gentler one.
  • You get seasick. The long trip has two full days on boats. Tell us before you book, not after.

What should you tell us to get a price?

Five details are enough for us to send you a real price instead of a rough guess. You can send them from either trip page.

  • Your dates: Even rough ones help, like "the second week of December".
  • How many people: And the ages of any children, because their price depends on age.
  • The hotel standard you want: Three-star, four-star or five-star.
  • Which trip you are leaning towards: Or tell us you cannot decide and we will price both.
  • Whether you already have a Thai visa: If not, we guide you through it.

Both trips can be changed. You can add a night in Phuket, skip Pattaya, or upgrade one hotel and not the others. Start from the five-day Bangkok and Pattaya trip or the eight-day Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi trip, or see all our international trips.

Common questions

Yes, but give it at least seven or eight days. With fewer days you spend too much of the holiday in cars and airports. Tell us you want all three and we will plan the order so you do not travel the same road twice.

Phuket is bigger and busier, with more hotels, restaurants and nightlife. Krabi is smaller and quieter, and its islands are closer to the shore. The eight-day trip includes both, so you do not have to choose.

Five days is enough for Bangkok and one beach nearby, which is what the Bangkok and Pattaya trip gives you. It is not enough to add Phuket or Krabi without rushing.

Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi, as long as you travel between November and April. It is quieter, the scenery is better, and you can upgrade the hotels in Phuket and Krabi. If your wedding is in the rainy months, it is worth waiting until November to travel.

Bangkok and Pattaya. There are no flights inside Thailand, the drives are short, and there is a lot for children to do in both cities. It also works during school holidays in any month.

You can, but it is a risk. Dashain usually falls in the wettest weeks of the year on that coast, and boat trips are sometimes cancelled. If Dashain is your only leave, Bangkok and Pattaya is the safer choice. If you can wait until after Tihar, Phuket and Krabi will be much better.

Where these facts come from

The day-by-day plans are from our own two Thailand trips as they stood in September 2026. The visa processing time and the advice to apply a month ahead come from the Royal Thai Embassy in Kathmandu. The weather by month comes from Experience Travel Group's guide to Thailand's seasons. The Maya Bay closure dates come from Asian Trails. The trip budget, flight and visa prices are the ones we found in September 2026 for our Thailand trip cost guide, and they will have changed by the time you read this.

Checked in September 2026. Prices are a guide only and will change. Weather varies from year to year, and visa rules can change at short notice, so confirm them before you book.
