Kuala Lumpur and Penang

About This Package
Kuala Lumpur is the Malaysia of towers and malls. Penang is the older one: George Town's streets of Chinese shophouses, mosques, Hindu temples and clan houses, kept much as traders built them in the nineteenth century, and the food the rest of Malaysia travels there to eat.
You start with three nights in Kuala Lumpur, for the city tour and the day at Batu Caves and Genting Highlands. Then an hour's flight north takes you to Penang. One day is the old quarter on foot, with its wall paintings and the clan jetties built on stilts over the water. The other goes to Kek Lok Si temple on its hillside and up Penang Hill by funicular, 800 metres above the city, with an evening at Batu Ferringhi beach.
Penang suits travellers who would rather walk a town than lie on a beach, and it is easy for vegetarians, because George Town has its own Little India. You fly home from Penang through Kuala Lumpur. To add a beach, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Langkawi continues to the island.

Practical Tips
- Fill in the free Malaysia Digital Arrival Card online within three days before you land. It is separate from the eVISA and you need both.
- Batu Caves has 272 steps and asks you to cover your shoulders and knees. Keep food and loose items in a closed bag, because the monkeys take them.
- The Penang Hill funicular closes for about a week of maintenance each year; the next closure announced is 4 to 10 January 2027. On those dates we replace the hill with the Penang Botanic Gardens.
- George Town is walked in the heat. Start early, carry water, and wear shoes you can slip off at the temples and clan houses.
